Brivis fault codes: ducted, splits & gas heating

When your Brivis system stops and shows a code, that code is the system telling you roughly where the problem is. Roughly is the key word. A fault code points in a direction, it rarely names the exact fix. Find your system below, tap your code, and it will take you straight to what it means and what to do.

Before you try anything: the only DIY steps that are ever safe are switching the system off at the isolator (and waiting 20 to 30 minutes), cleaning or checking filters, checking the controller settings and batteries, and keeping the outdoor unit clear. Anything behind a panel, anything electrical, and anything involving refrigerant or gas is licensed work. If a code below says switch off and call, please take it at its word.

How to read the tables: 🟢 means there is a safe first step worth trying. 🟡 means book a service, the system needs a technician. 🔴 means switch the system off at the isolator and call us on (02) 4760 0100.

E2 The return air temperature sensor is not reading properly.
T1 sensor fault.

EA The compressor has repeatedly drawn too much current and the system has shut it down to protect it.
Compressor current protection, tripped four times.

EB The power module that drives the compressor has a fault.
IPM (inverter power module) malfunction.

P4 The compressor motor is not turning the way the electronics expect.
Compressor rotor position protection.
🟡 Book a service.
J0 The indoor coil has become too hot and the system is protecting itself.
Evaporator high temperature protection.
🟡 Check the return air filter is clean and vents are open, then book a service if it happens again.
J1 The outdoor coil has become too hot and the system is protecting itself.
Condenser high temperature protection.

J2 The compressor is running dangerously hot and the system has shut down to protect it.

J5 Refrigerant pressure has gone too high and the system has shut down to protect itself.
High pressure protection.

J6 Refrigerant pressure has dropped too low, which can mean the system is losing refrigerant.

45 The heater's internal low-voltage supply dipped – usually a power loss or brownout – and it will try to restart.

46 The heater failed to light within the allowed time and will try again; repeated failures lock it out.
IGN_RETRY (MPS) / IGR_NOFLM (Starpro) – no flame detected during ignition.
🔴 If your gas supply was recently off, or LPG bottles may be low, that's a common cause. If it keeps failing to light, switch the heater off and call us.

Rinnai air conditioner fault codes explained

When your Rinnai system stops and shows a code, that code is the system telling you roughly where the problem is. Roughly is the key word. A fault code points in a direction, it rarely names the exact fix. Find your system below, tap your code, and it will take you straight to what it means and what to do.

Before you try anything: the only DIY steps that are ever safe are switching the system off at the isolator (and waiting 20 to 30 minutes), cleaning or checking filters, checking the controller settings and batteries, and keeping the outdoor unit clear. Anything behind a panel, anything electrical, and anything involving refrigerant or gas is licensed work. If a code below says switch off and call, please take it at its word.

How to read the tables: 🟢 means there is a safe first step worth trying. 🟡 means book a service, the system needs a technician. 🔴 means switch the system off at the isolator and call us on (02) 4760 0100.

PC 44 The outdoor unit detected the compressor at zero speed when it should be turning.

PH 09 Not a fault: in heating, the unit holds the fan back until the coil is warm so it doesn't blow cold air at you.

🟢 No action needed. This is normal start-up behaviour in heating, and the fan will ramp up once the coil warms.
PC 0F The power-factor-correction module in the outdoor unit has a fault.

System over-pressure protection.
🔴 Switch the system off at the isolator and call us. It is fine to check nothing is smothering the outdoor unit, but don't keep restarting it.
PC 31 The refrigerant pressure dropped too low, which often points to lost refrigerant.

PH 91 The indoor coil got too cold in cooling and the system stopped to avoid icing up.
Evaporator coil low-temperature (anti-freeze) protection. Restricted airflow or low refrigerant are common causes.

LC 05 Not a fault: the system is limiting compressor speed because of the supply voltage.

LH 07 Not a fault: the controller has told the system to cap its output (for example a quiet or limit setting).
Frequency limit caused by the remote controller.
🟢 Check the controller for quiet, eco or capacity-limit settings if you weren't expecting reduced output. Otherwise no action needed.
Two indoor units on the same outdoor unit are asking for opposite modes (one heating, one cooling), so one of them is waiting.

E3 The indoor fan isn't running at the speed it should, and the unit has stopped to protect itself.
Indoor fan speed out of control. Trips when fan speed stays too low (around 300 RPM) for a set time. Causes include wiring, fan assembly, fan motor or PCB. Lamp pattern: operation lamp flashes 4 times, timer lamp off.
🟡 Safe to power-cycle at the isolator once (the manual's own first step is powering off and back on after a couple of minutes). If E3 comes back, book a service, as it usually means a fan motor or board fault.
E4 The indoor (room air) temperature sensor isn't reading properly.

Overload current protection. Same fault family as the DRCi F0: technician checks cover supply voltage, wiring, bridge rectifier, dirty outdoor coil, outdoor fan operation, refrigerant overcharge and the outdoor PCB. Lamp pattern: operation lamp flashes once, timer lamp on.

The role

This is a full-time, hands-on installation role working across split system and ducted air conditioning, with some travel involved. Day to day, you’ll be delivering quality installs, commissioning systems and making sure every job meets Australian standards and the Ample Air standard.

What you’ll be doing

  • Installing split system and ducted air conditioning units across a range of residential and commercial projects
  • Running, brazing and pressure-testing pipework
  • Evacuating, charging and commissioning systems to manufacturer specifications
