What is the best brand?

Everybody has a different opinion.  It is much like asking what is the best brand of car.  We select the brands we sell on four main criteria:

  • Quality of manufacture
  • Quality of performance
  • Noise levels
  • Availability of parts

A brand may measure up in manufacture, performance and noise levels, but if spare parts are not readily available, you could be left with a useless unit when you need it most…. summer.

Who installs the systems?

Only fully qualified and licensed tradesman. Our tradesman’s Contractor’s licence and qualifications are your guarantee of a professional installation.  All work is fully guaranteed and Ample Air holds a current $10,000,000.00 Public Liability policy.

Air Conditioning Minimum Energy Performance Standard – MEPS

From the 1st of October 2001, three phase ducted and non ducted air conditioners of the vapour compression type with a cooling capacity of up to 65kW manufactured in or imported into Australia and New Zealand, had to comply with the Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) requirements. These requirements are set out in Australian and New Zealand Standard 3823.2-2001. Since then MEPS levels have progressively increased and from the 1st of October 2007, increased MEPS levels will come into force.

Today, developed countries like Australia are turning to MEPS to increase the number of energy efficient units in the marketplace.

All major Manufacturers including Rinnai, Carrier, Toshiba and Daikin Air Conditioning are committed to providing air conditioning solutions that are energy efficient, quiet, simple to use and reliable, ensuring units not only meet MEPS requirements but in most cases exceed the minimum requirements.

Air Conditioning Do’s & Don’ts

Follow these simple tips to keep your air conditioning system running efficiently and avoid unnecessary damage or faults:

✅ Do’s

  • Wait before restarting the systemIf the system has been turned off, wait 2–3 minutes before turning it back on. Restarting too quickly can damage the compressor or blow a fuse.
  • Clean your filters regularlyWe recommend cleaning your filters at the start of each heating and cooling season, or every 1–3 monthsdepending on usage.
  • Always run at least one zone (for ducted systems)Operating the system with all zones closed can cause airflow restriction and system strain.
  • Trim trees and shrubs around the outdoor unitMaintain clear airflow by trimming back vegetation. Blocked airflow reduces efficiency and can overheat the system.
  • Set a stable, comfortable temperatureUse consistent set points — ideally 22–24°C for cooling and 20–22°C for heating — to avoid unnecessary cycling and wear.
  • Use timers or Wi-Fi controls (if available)Automating your usage saves energy and helps keep your home comfortable when you’re not there.
  • Schedule annual servicingA professional service helps maintain performance, extend lifespan, and catch problems before they worsen.
  • Monitor your energy usageUnexpectedly high bills may indicate a clogged filter, poor airflow, or a developing system fault.
  • Keep the outdoor unit cleanRegularly sweep away leaves, dirt, and cobwebs around the outdoor unit to maintain optimal airflow.
  • Leave internal doors open where possiblePromotes even airflow, especially in open-plan or multi-room layouts.

 Don’ts

  • Don’t restart the system too quicklyRestarting without waiting 2–3 minutes can cause electrical or compressor damage.
  • Don’t change the thermostat by more than 2°C at onceSudden changes may trigger the system to switch modes (cooling ↔ heating), potentially straining the compressor.
  • Don’t block vents or grillesEnsure furniture, curtains, or other objects don’t obstruct air circulation inside your home.
  • Don’t cover or enclose the outdoor unitAvoid placing items near or on top of the outdoor unit — restricted airflow can cause overheating.
  • Don’t run the system with dirty filtersThis can reduce efficiency, increase power usage, and lead to water leaks or equipment faults.
  • Don’t close all internal doorsEspecially with ducted systems, this can cause backpressure and reduced airflow, impacting performance.
  • Don’t leave zones open to rooms with doors closedAir can back up into closed-off rooms, reducing overall system efficiency.
  • Don’t ignore unusual noises or smellsBuzzing, rattling, burning smells, or other odd behaviours should be checked early by a technician.
  • Don’t allow pets near the outdoor unitPet urine can severely corrode the coils and components. Dog’s also often chew through electrical cables!
  • Don’t attempt DIY repairs or open panelsAlways leave servicing and repairs to a licensed technician to avoid voiding warranties or risking injury.
  • Don’t skip regular maintenanceAnnual servicing is crucial to keeping your system reliable, efficient, and safe.
