MyAir vs MyPlace IQ: What’s the Difference?

Both are Australian-made by Advantage Air. Both deliver up to 10-zone ducted air-con with optional room temperature sensors, smartphone control, and the option to expand into a full smart home setup — lights, garage and more — through the MyPlace ecosystem. Pricing is broadly similar.

The real difference is how the system installs in your home.

Which one suits you?

A simple way to think about it: MyAir suits new home builds, MyPlace IQ suits existing homes.

MyAir for new builds — When your home is being built, the cabling for a hardwired wall tablet can be run easily as part of the build. You get a permanent control point on the wall plus the smartphone app, and the system can be expanded into the broader MyPlace smart home ecosystem at any stage.

MyPlace IQ for existing homes — Retrofitting an established home means fewer cables to run and less mess. The compact Q-Hub plugs into your router and the rest is wireless, so there’s no need to chase new cabling through finished walls. You control everything from your phone, with the option to add a wall tablet if you want one. Like MyAir, IQ can also be expanded into the broader MyPlace smart home ecosystem when you’re ready.

Can I upgrade my existing ducted system with a MyAir smart controller?

Yes, in many cases, you absolutely can! As long as your current air conditioner is a modern inverter machine, we can generally retrofit a smart control system like MyAir to your existing setup.

Before we can guarantee the upgrade, an Ample Air technician will need to carry out a site inspection. We must physically inspect your roof cavity to assess your current duct layout, inspect your existing motorised dampers, and confirm your zoning options to ensure the new smart system integrates seamlessly.

Upgrading an existing unit with a MyAir system is a brilliant investment. It gives you exact temperature control and airflow adjustment for every single zone, meaning everyone in the family gets their ideal climate. More importantly, by giving you the power to easily turn off zones you aren’t using, this upgrade significantly improves your system’s overall efficiency and drastically reduces your running costs.

Can I add an extra outlet to my garage or a new home extension?

This is a very common request, but adding a new outlet to an existing ducted system is often more complex and costly than people expect.

When your original air conditioning system was installed, the machine’s cooling and heating capacity, the ductwork sizing, and the air balance were all specifically designed for your home’s original floorplan. If we simply attach a new duct and outlet to supply a new space—especially a large extension or an uninsulated garage—it forces the system to stretch beyond its intended design. As a result, this new outlet will “steal” airflow from your existing bedrooms and living areas, significantly reducing the comfort and efficiency of your entire home.

Before adding any new vents, an Ample Air technician will need to assess your current machine’s capacity. While extending the ductwork is occasionally possible, we often find that installing a dedicated, budget-friendly high-wall split system in the new room is a much smarter and more cost-effective solution than compromising your existing whole-home system.

I already bought an air conditioning unit. Can Ample Air install it for me?

While we appreciate you reaching out to us for your installation, Ample Air exclusively installs air conditioning units that are purchased directly through our store.

We have this policy in place to ensure we can provide you with the absolute best after-sales support. Because we are authorized dealers and official warranty agents for premium, trusted brands like ActronAir, Rinnai, Toshiba, and Carrier, supplying the unit ourselves means we can fully guarantee both the equipment and our workmanship. If a warranty issue ever arises down the track, we can handle the entire repair process for you internally. When customers supply their own units, it often complicates warranty claims and can leave you stuck acting as the middleman between the manufacturer and the installer.

Can I control a standard split system with my smartphone?

Yes! While fully ducted systems have comprehensive smart controllers like MyAir , many modern high-wall split systems like Rinnai now come with built-in Wi-Fi or can be fitted with a simple Wi-Fi module. This allows you to turn your unit on or off, adjust the temperature, and set daily schedules directly from an app on your smartphone—meaning you can turn the AC on before you even leave work.
