Can I add an extra outlet to my garage or a new home extension?

This is a very common request, but adding a new outlet to an existing ducted system is often more complex and costly than people expect.

When your original air conditioning system was installed, the machine’s cooling and heating capacity, the ductwork sizing, and the air balance were all specifically designed for your home’s original floorplan. If we simply attach a new duct and outlet to supply a new space—especially a large extension or an uninsulated garage—it forces the system to stretch beyond its intended design. As a result, this new outlet will “steal” airflow from your existing bedrooms and living areas, significantly reducing the comfort and efficiency of your entire home.

Before adding any new vents, an Ample Air technician will need to assess your current machine’s capacity. While extending the ductwork is occasionally possible, we often find that installing a dedicated, budget-friendly high-wall split system in the new room is a much smarter and more cost-effective solution than compromising your existing whole-home system.
